Transforming conflict one empathic word at a time

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Viktor Frankl

Transformative Power of Empathic Language

By consciously choosing words that convey understanding, compassion and recognition of others’ feelings, we can bridge divides and foster a more constructive dialogue.

Empathic language helps to validate the experiences and emotions of all parties involved creating a foundation for trust and collaboration. The words we use can not only de-escalate tensions but also build stronger, more meaningful connections, ultimately transforming conflict into a path toward healing and mutual respect.

Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

is a communication and conflict transformation model developed by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s. The purpose of NVC is to foster understanding, connection, and compassion in communication, ultimately reducing conflict and promoting peaceful solutions that benefit all.

NVC is used in a wide variety of settings and contexts including personal relationships, workplace communication, conflict resolution and social activism. By focusing on empathy and understanding, NVC helps create a space where people can express themselves openly and honestly, while also being receptive to the needs and feelings of others.

Hi I’m Janine Shalev.

I’ve been working with Nonviolent Communication for over 20 years in a wide variety of settings ranging from Children’s Centre and schools to restorative justice in prisons, from supporting parents with mental health issues in the family to supporting families around trauma, change and loss.

My focus has been on using power of NVC to enable parents to support themselves and each other and raise emotionally articulate and resilient children. My focus currently is to extend the reach of NVC and compassionate communication, empowering organisations and individuals to maximise their potential and live healthier, more connected lives. I am currently training in NVC mediation with a view to enabling systemic change around conflict transformation.

I work with….

What I offer

Entry level NVC training focusing on developing NVC skills and emotional resilience in person and on-line

Mission and Vision

My vision is to empower individuals and communities with the skills and confidence needed to find their voices, build empathic connections and bridge the gaps. My mission is to work collaboratively to bring these essential skills into community settings, empowering leaders to engage with their communities in the spirit of empathy, authenticity and understanding.

In light of the current global and local conflict and division, the need for NVC’s transformative power is more critical than ever. Together, we can build a future where understanding and compassion prevail over conflict and division.
